World-Class Flavour: Food & Wine Magazine Spotlights Our Wineries

When Food & Wine Magazine explored Kelowna’s emergence as Canada’s first UNESCO City of Gastronomy, two familiar names made the list: Home Block Restaurant at CedarCreek Estate Winery and The Terrace Restaurant at Mission Hill Family Estate.

Discover why these one of a kind Okanagan Valley winery restaurant experiences are highlighted as part of Canada’s first UNESCO City of Gastronomy. Mark Anthony Wine & Spirits proudly represents CedarCreek Estate Winery and Mission Hill Family Estate as icons of culinary and wine excellence in British Columbia’s world class wine country.

The Terrace Restaurant – Mission Hill Family Estate Winery

“This open-air restaurant is located at Mission Hill Family Estate in West Kelowna, and its menu is as exciting as its award-winning wines. More than 40 botanical ingredients — from lemon verbena to chamomile to lemongrass — are grown on-site, while everything else is sourced locally from a range of artisanal purveyors. Highly seasonal in nature, The Terrace Restaurant menu, helmed by chef Gayler, changes based on what produce is at its freshest. Black Angus beef tenderloin may be glazed with black apple and served alongside broccolini cooked in spring garlic butter; while ricotta might come with preserved Okanagan tomatoes, a selection of estate-grown basils, and locally foraged elderflower. After your meal, head to the winery’s boutique for edible takeaways including Mission Hill’s own hot sauces and pickles.”

Home Block Restaurant – CedarCreek Estate Winery

“Home Block, the on-site restaurant at CedarCreek Estate Winery, is anchored by a wood-fired grill that gives many of its dishes a delicate kiss of smoke and char. The seasonal menu’s ingredients are sourced from rangers and farmers around the Okanagan Valley, as well as from the restaurant’s own gardens, resulting in a true culinary celebration of the local terroir. Expect chef Neil Taylor’s dishes to feel like elevated takes on familiar flavors — be it chilled local asparagus with peas, crème fraîche, and new potatoes, or chorizo meatballs with polenta, Marcona almonds, and Manchego — all served in a contemporary dining room overlooking Okanagan Lake.”

Meet the Chefs

Executive Chef Patrick Gayler

Executive Chef Patrick Gayler

When the valley thrives, we thrive. This motto drives Chef Patrick Gayler’s culinary practices — the ingredients he uses grow in the same terroir as our vineyards. With his close relationships with local farms and farmers, the Terrace Restaurant features in-season, fresh plates. By working with our winemakers, the culinary team ensures these plates are paired thoughtfully to the wine you are served.

When Chef Patrick’s not visiting local farms, running the Terrace Restaurant’s kitchen, or overseeing canning, pickling, and curing, he tends to the estate garden. Beehives, a herb garden, and an orchard are all products of the sustainable practices upheld at Mission Hill Family Estate.

Chef Neil Taylor

Chef Neil Taylor

For Chef Neil Taylor, success is having guests treat Home Block like a second home. His cooking style is one of elevated comfort, with big, bold flavours that speak to CedarCreek’s wine. On any given day, Chef Neil can be found in the estate garden collecting ripe produce or visiting farmers and foragers in the community for seasonal ingredients. He lets the land dictate the menu, keeping both guests and the kitchen team engaged with new dishes, supplied by what’s close and what’s in-season. You can come in once a week for a month and have a different plate each time — something Chef Neil encourages you to do.
